  • Breakaway Cable

    Hi Guys,

While hooking up my trailer I noticed the breakaway cable is in rough shape and will probably break soon.

I have an Eagle trailer with the Tie Down 70lp actuator. There isn't much info out there. Has anyone changed the breakaway cable before?

Are you talking the one that hooks to the brake actuator and applies brakes if your trailer comes unhooked? I have never needed to replace one but It appears straightforward pc of aircraft cable with eye loop on one end and a clip or carbiner on the other. Check E-trailer they may carry just the cable assemblies. Or you could make something up at local hardware store.
Tell me asshole - What's your fair share of everything I've worked for??? Please join me in starving and beating the govt back to it's honeymoon physique.

Mine goes in to the actuator and loops around inside. Looks like you have to take it all apart to change it. It's model specific and looks like even serial number specific... what a pain.

I made my own for my last trailer. Bought the coated cable and used ferrules with loops on the end. Used 2 cable clamps on each end and cranked them tight then used the threaded C-clips on each end. Looked at a few trailers at the marina and mine looked just as strong but thankfully never had to test it.
