Anyone else use LinkedIn? At our National Sales Meeting back in January, one of the speakers said this was a "must". I signed up, but didn't do much with it.

Now that my wife is in the midst of a job search, I've renewed my interest in it. Seems like a pretty neat concept, not sure how it will work in practice.

Kind of like a Professional version of Facebook. If anyone else is out there, let me know. It sounds like the more connections you have, the more useful the tool can be.

Here is what it says on their website:

LinkedIn is an interconnected network of experienced professionals from around the world, representing 170 industries and 200 countries. You can find, be introduced to, and collaborate with qualified professionals that you need to work with to accomplish your goals. When you join, you create a profile that summarizes your professional expertise and accomplishments. You can then form enduring connections by inviting trusted contacts to join LinkedIn and connect to you. Your network consists of your connections, your connections’ connections, and the people they know, linking you to a vast number of qualified professionals and experts. Through your network you can:

•Manage the information that’s publicly available about you as professional
•Find and be introduced to potential clients, service providers, and subject experts who come recommended
•Create and collaborate on projects, gather data, share files and solve problems
•Be found for business opportunities and find potential partners
•Gain new insights from discussions with likeminded professionals in private group settings
•Discover inside connections that can help you land jobs and close deals
•Post and distribute job listings to find the best talent for your company

I was given an "invite" by one of our suppliers. With the way work has been going this year, I decided I didn't have time or need for a "social network" for work.

I understand the owner of our company is on it.

It's useful for folks in the technology industries, but I don't think every industry uses it. I've gotten two upper level jobs from LinkedIn. Recruiters search it like Monster to look for candidates for jobs.

My wife is in medical device sales and hasn't seen much use for it there.

I'm on it, but haven't had much benefit from it. But then, I haven't put much into it as far as keeping it updated with current projects and such. I just have pretty basic info on it.

I've been on it for a while. Good for networking plus they have groups that you can subscribe to that post interesting information or articles about a particular field you're interested in. I haven't received any calls about a job though.
