  • Double Barrel 1911 45 acp

During my research/search for a full size 1911 Mil Spec I came across this YouTube featuring a Double Barrel 1911 45 acp that I thought was very interesting; https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q...F&&FORM=VRDGAR.

By the way, I narrowed my search down to either a Remington or Springfield Armory, Stainless Steel, full size frame 1911 Mil Spec. 45 acp.

Ryan, when I was stationed in Germany back in 1968 I was issued a M1911 manufactured in 1913 by Colt. When it came time to join the rank of civilian it also was also time to surrender the M1911 back to the Quarter Master. The Army was replacing the 45 cal. M1911 for the 9mm Berretta, so, the Army offered to sell the M1911’s to those issued the beast. At the time I didn’t need it, so with no foresight, I declined, dumb move on my part. I always loved range time shooting the beast. Move the hands of time 51 years forward, I missed the beast and went out in search of my old pal. After shell shock and kicking myself in the ass several times, I went to plan “B”, searching for the alternative, a modern old pal. I chose manufactures that were under license at the time to produce the M1911. My choices are Remington and Springfield Armory. I realize Springfield Armory’s parts are manufactured in Brazil, assembled in Illinois by American Certified Gun Smiths. Yes, I looked at Kimber’s offerings, it wasn’t what I was looking for and I’m sure it’s a fine piece; and that’s my story.

Sorry you passed on the opportunity to buy your old side arm. If only could go back in time.

I have a couple of Kimber's, and am a BIG fan. I am sure the Remington and Springfield are nice as well.

I'm guessing I was shooting that same 9mm Beretta they switched to when I was in the military back in the 90's. I never did like that gun and would guess that the M1911 was MUCH MUCH better!! I did purchase a Springfield 9mm a couple years ago and I like it a lot. Fun, accurate and fairly inexpensive gun to shoot and not intimidating for newbies to handle.

My boss has a Springfield TRP that is really nice. If you're looking at Springfield, I would recommend looking at the TRP series. My personal choice is a Para Elite Commander. Losing 3/4" of an inch off the front of the pistol in the Commander size makes it even easier to carry.
