  • 12VDC side of fridge is non-functional

Good day all! My family and I have recently had our offer accepted on a 2005 270 CR. It was brokered through a local marina, so they didn’t have many answers, and I don’t have contact information for the owners.
It was disclosed to us that the only issue they know of was the 12 VDC side of the dual voltage side of the fridge in the cabin is non-functional. Due to work travel in these crazy times, we are able to sea trial until at least October 7th (upstate NY on Lake a Ontario) so in the mean time, does anyone have any ideas for what to look into for a possible fix. I’m hearing a replacement is roughly $1200 but haven’t verified.
I’m not new to boating, but I am new to boat ownership. Any things to check for this potential model year on the sea trial would be greatly appreciated. It has the 496 big block, 8.1L MPI engine and bravo 3 out drive. Thanks all!

Our offer reflected this, but I don’t want to buy a new fridge and have it be something stupid on the 12 VDC side like a blown inline fuse we didn’t know about. Just trying to cover my bases. In the meantime, any suggestions on a new fridge manufacturer?

Norcold and dometic are very popular.

As Chad indicated Dometic and Norcold are the big players in the small recreational market (from my understanding). You'll probably find a direct-fit with these two. I've owned both and have a Dometic in my 260CR now. Having owned multiple travel trailers, I can tell you that neither company builds products that lasts forever. They seems to be in a cost prohibitive market and the durability reflects that situation. When they work, they work great. We replaced three Dometic A/C units on our brand new travel trailer. That's basically a new A/C unit every-other year. Not a great record.
