  • Spots, spots, spots

Just spent 5 days on TRL. Boat was in slip. Pulled it out and wiped down with McGuire's quick mist and clean like i always do. Got it home and went over it again and again but still has spots on the deep hull from where it sat in the water. Tried McGuire's hard spot remover. Didn't work. Boat had a good waxing at the beginning of the season
Do I need to high speed polish it to get it off or what?

I use the works toilet bowl cleaner diluted down after sitting in the water for a while. Its pretty acidic and you need to keep it off paint and stainless but it does take off all hard water and lime spots. Done this for years.

Won't that strip the wax off the boat?

Sure will. But its the only thing I've had luck with, easier to clean it and re-wax than to scrub and scrub

I would try a 50-50 vinegar/water. Spray on let sit and wash off. Won't hurt paint and will be easier on wax.

My solution: give the boat to me and you don't have to worry about a few little spots anymore!

Vinegar is amazing! Very safe for gels and paint and the environment. AND CHEAP. If 100% undiluted vinegar doesn't work, then move to the toilet cleaners, hull cleaners, etc..

And a word about wax..any type of cleaning and scrubbing will remove the wax. Wax doesn't last as long as what you think anyway and should be applied often when leaving any vehicle in the elements.

I totally agree on the wax thing. When I bought my first boat years ago my dealer told me to mix vinegar and windex. Worked great. Then I got on the wax threads and thought I'd give it a try. Bought all the expensive cleaners etc and seems now I'm working harder to get the spots off cause I'm worried about the wax.
I'm gonna go back to vinegar and windex and then polish the boat a couple times a year then wax it at the end of the season to protect in from the dust and grime in storage.
